The Lesotho winter runs from May to July, when it often snows in the Highlands and sometimes in the lowlands too, which is great for skiing and very picturesque. Although the days are usually clear and warm, it does get extremely cold at night and ice can make driving hazardous in Highlands areas. Spring (August-October) is a beautiful time, when the snow melts, new plants sprout up everywhere, and the fields are tilled again. November to January is summer , when Lesotho gets most of its rain, which is often torrential, turning dirt roads into mudslides. Still, when it isn't raining the weather is usually sunny and the landscape vivid shades of green. Autumn (February-April) is one of the best times to visit the country, as it doesn't usually rain too much and temperatures are moderate. Whatever the time of year, Lesotho can be very cold at night, particularly in the Highlands, and prone to rapid weather changes, for which it is always wise to be prepared.
